Textile Images of the Middle Ages

Splendid tapestries, finely painted banners, altar hangings with subtle embroideries and the vestments of priests determined the appearance of medieval church interiors. As mobile decorative images textiles could easily be exchanged. Thus there were suitable decorations for the different feast days throughout the church year. The special exhibition 2012 presents the variety of such textile Ornamenta, as the decorative elements were called, and explains their images and functions.
